High Data Rate VCSELs for AI Data Center
Lasers for AI applications and data centers require a high bandwidth and excellent single mode performance. Vertilas has developed high data rate lasers by optimizing the InP VCSEL design with a bandwidth up to 22 GHz, high max. optical power of 4 mW and a side mode suppression ratio (SMSR) of 40 dB. Single mode VCSELs for 1310 nm, 1490 nm and 1550 nm have been demonstrated with a modulation performance of 10 to 50 Gb/s NRZ, and 106 Gb/s PAM4.

InP VCSEL
Our unique long wavelength VCSEL concept is based on InP material, enabling to manufacture communications lasers for 1310 nm, 1490 nm and 1550 nm. It features a buried tunnel junction for the current confinement, an epitaxial top DBR, a multi quantum well active area and dielectric bottom mirror encapsulated by a gold substrate. This very efficient thermal design enables ultra high performance and long lifetime reliability.

Spectrum
The optical power and optical spectrum can be well defined by the etched area of the buried tunnel junction. The figure below show the spectrum of a single mode 1310 nm VCSEL.
